Players Run 2007 - Update #2 |
Published by JF September 12th, 2007 |
 |
From Team Polizei's very own Piloten Jon Goodrich vacationing on this year's Players Run:
0710HR Mountain Time - Update #2 9/12/2007
Unfortunately, no Vantage in Calgary. As of 7AM, we are still not sure if the car has arrived at the border town in Montana. We found
out late last night that the trucking companies last update said the car would arrive 'at the latest' by 11AM on Wednesday.
Plan is to do the breakfast and drivers meeting, then hop in a Tahoe to get a ride to the border. There will be a car line-up in front of
the hotel at ~9:30AM and a police escort out of town shortly thereafter. It's 45 degrees, raining and cold here this morning and we feel
particularly bad for the guys in the 427 Shelby. Guessing it will be an adventure for most with 20" inch summers in the cold Canadian
rain. For us it looks like our canadian leg will be spent in the back of an American SUV.
Will text updates when we get to the border. Expect that to be around 1PM Mountain.

1007hr Mountain Time
In a hired Tahoe (700 bucks) limo service heading south on highway two towards the border. V1 up. Our driver is doing a cool 130kph current position P1 Currently dubbed "Team Limousine"
1503hr Mountain Time
Have reached border and acquired Aston - first to checkpoint and believe in P1. On 90 one hundred miles east of Butte. Ash is at the wheel and doing 125.
(Alex @ Jon - I hope she's doing 125 in kilometers and not miles, unless you're leaning over with your hand on the wheel. ;-)) |

From Team Polizei's very own Piloten Jon Goodrich vacationing on this year's Players Run:
Update #3 from Big Sky, Montana: "Making the most of It"
With the help of a noble effort from our driver, we arrived at the Canadian border at around noon in our hired Tahoe with Dustin Whorls from Mischief.tv. After a brief and confusing conversation with the border guard explaining how and why we were being chauffeured to the Montana to meet our car, we passed through. The word on our car from the trucking company was as follows:
"You car is parked approximately 1/2 mile from the border check on the right side of the road. Look for the American flag. The key to both your Vantage and the Gallardo that are sitting there is underneath the southern horse statue's right hoof. Dig beneath the platform and you will find a plastic bag with both keys." I seriously thought the guy was joking. |

We arrived at the rest stop in pouring rain and 40 degree weather. The Vantage and Gallardo were in fact just sitting there and after a brief search under the horses hoof we located the key. We managed to cram Ashley's two humungus bags and my few bits into the car, bidded Dustin and the driver a warm farewell and proceeded to the checkpoint in Glacier National Park. We were first to the checkpoint and Ashley drew us a respectable King of Diamonds, the first card in our Player's Run poker hand.

1158hr Mountain Time - from unknown location somewhere south of Big Sky, Montana
Left the hotel in last place with a few alleged friends. Stopped for gas and thet kept going! Filled up and passed 20 cars on a 1 lane…slr lambos bentley/etc
(Alex - Bad Jon! BAD JON! You're supposed to be on vacation. That's not going to impress Ashley. Use your verbal skills. Last is first. Remember Sun Tzu. Also, passing on a one lane is very irresponsible, and I'm not being cute. I hope it wasn't over a solid white line. I won't tell eCirkit if you don't. Please drive safely and deliver Ashley to San Diego in one peice. I tried calling for details, but your phone coverage has obviously been spotty today…) |

140+ in Aston on clear empty road…safe car. Arrived yellowstone only darkside here. Waiting for old faithful to blow then will assume aston assault. More to follow…
(Alex - Jon's updates have been sparse today - whoever his cell provider is, their network is terrible. And Jon….it's not a race…) |

Multiple updates from both Des @ GT Spirit (check out his frequently updated photo gallery and forums) and Team Polizei's very own Piloten Jon Goodrich, vacationing with Ashley Van Dyke on this year's Players Run:
We left the Monaco Hotel in Salt Lake City at 0930hr Mountain Time with a police escort out of town. Not 5 minutes after we left the escort, Ashley got pulled for no aparent reason. The cop was friendly enough, asked us a few questions and then let us go, but not before every SINGLE car in the rally passed us waving and honking. Back on the road after a 15 minute delay, we knew we had our work cut out for us. A few miles down the road we saw Jonathan Katz in the LP640 pulled as well. Apparently he got the same friendly warning we did. With Friday metro traffic, there was not much to be done and we did not see a single rally car for miles. We feared the worst, last posiiton.
Ashley got us out of town and picked up the pace, but we still did not see any other cars. We phoned a few friends and found out that miracolously we had passed a number of cars who apparently pulled off together for fuel. A few other guys stopped for lunch, vacation style.
We chose the Polizei lunch method, gas stop, taco bell and out in less than 4 minutes. I took the wheel outside of Cedar City, UT at 12:24 PM Mountain Time according to the gas reciept and began my chicken burrito in the left hand Aston assault. It was a fast, beautiful ride down I-15 South, with little police and lots of scenery. We arrived at the Andretti Racing school at 2:20 Mountain Time, 1:20 Pacific in P1.
We have checked into the Wynn, showered and are returning to the track to turn some laps at 4PM.
Ashley has yet to accept my vegas marriage proposal, but we have not had any drinks yet and the chapel is open 24 hours. I checked.

Players Run 2007 - Update #6 - Vegas to L.A. |

After arriving first to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway yesterday, we went to the Wynn, checked in and returned to the Speedway for the Mario Andretti Indy Experience. Was truly unique in that we got to drive a real indy car at speed on a perfectly banked NASCAR oval. Ashley pushed her instructor to almost 150 MPH in the six laps she turned and we both agreed that it was an experience we would not soon forget. |
